CareSouth Carolina has received $208,457 in funding from the Health and Human Services Administration to enroll uninsured persons in Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Lee and Marlboro counties in new health coverage options made available by the Affordable Care Act.
CareSouth, as a community health center, has a long history of providing eligibility assistance for patients in their medical centers as well as non-patients in community settings.   Through this funding, CareSouth is hiring four new outreach staff to help both current patients as well as others in the community understand their coverage options through the new Health Insurance Marketplace and the Children’s Health Insurance Program; determine their eligibility and what financial help they can get; and enroll in new affordable health coverage options.
Over the next year, staff will be providing public education sessions and materials; assisting individuals one-on-one;  providing additional training eligibility and assistance services;  developing and expanding partnerships with fellow organizations and providing needed referrals.
