Dillon’s Dixie Darlings took a 13-12 loss from North Carolina on Saturday but defeated Alabama on Sunday to stay alive in the 2013 Dixie Darlings World Series in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Opening ceremonies for the World Series tournament were held on Friday night with softball action beginning on Saturday. Eleven state championship teams were set to compete along with host team Alexandria National: Crenshaw County – Alabama; Broken Bow, Oklahoma – Arkansas; Holmes County – Florida; Jones County National – Georgia; Sabine – Louisiana; East Central – Mississippi; Boger City Optimist – North Carolina; Dillon – South Carolina; Madison Central – Tennessee; Franklin County – Texas; and Halifax American – Virginia.

The Dillon girls took on Boger City in round one and were edged 13-12 by the NC state champs on Saturday. Also on Saturday, Virginia clobbered Georgia 20-3; Tennessee defeated Texas 23-2; Florida downed Arkansas 25-4; Louisiana took down Mississippi 23-12; and host team Alexandria National edged Alabama 19-18.

On Sunday, Dillon faced elimination against Crenshaw County, but managed a 20-14 win over the Alabama state champs to stay alive in the tournament. In the other elimination bracket games, Mississippi defeated Arkansas 17-2 and Texas eliminated Georgia with a 19-14 win.

In the winner’s bracket, Tennessee edged Virginia 13-12 and Louisiana got a 10-9 win over Florida, while North Carolina took a 26-15 win over Alexandria.

North Carolina’s win gives them a bye until Tuesday night while Tennessee and Louisiana were scheduled to face off on Monday night at 8:00 p.m.

Dillon was scheduled to face Mississippi on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the elimination bracket, while Florida was set to take on Texas and Virginia was scheduled to face Alexandria. The winner of the Dillon/Mississippi game will face the winner of the Florida/Texas game today at 5:00 p.m.
