Latta’s Lady Vikings took a 2-1 loss from Conway’s Lady Tigers on Monday night at Conway.

Neither team could cross the plate until the bottom of the fourth when Conway scored two runners that were driven in by Deanna Deluca and Coker Edge. The Vikings scored one run in the top of the sixth as Raven Baxley scored Tara Grimsley.

Tara Grimsley took the loss on the mound, pitching two innings for three hits, two earned runs, one hit by pitch and one walk, striking out one. Conway’s Howell got the win, pitching 4.6 innings for seven outs.

Grimsley went 1-for-3 at bat and scored Latta’s only run, with Raven Baxley getting the RBI. Macy Hyatt went 1-for-2, and Madison Owens went 1-for-3 for Latta.

Conway’s Deluca and Edwards each went 1-for-3 with a double, and Deluca and Edge each picked up a RBI in the win. Conway had a total of four hits.

Latta fell to 7-8 overall and remained 3-2 in Region 8A. The Lady Vikings were ranked 10th in the state in Class A softball in the most recent coaches’ poll. East Clarendon topped the list, followed by Lewisville, Dixie, St. Joseph, and Fox Creek. Johnsonville ranked sixth, with Green Sea-Floyds in eighth and Lake View ninth.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled to host Chesterfield on Wednesday night and Hannah-Pamplico on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team!

Latta will finish out the regular season on the road beginning next week. On Monday, Latta will be at South Florence for a double-header and on Wednesday the Vikings will travel to face Green Sea-Floyds. On Friday, April 19, Latta will face Lake View at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up region play, and on Monday, April 22, the Lady Vikings will close out the regular season with a double-header against Darlington.
