The Latta Vikings took home a 7-5 win over Green Sea-Floyds on Tuesday night in varsity baseball action.
Latta scored their first run in the top of the first inning, but the Trojans responded with two in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead. The Vikings pulled ahead with three runs in the top of the third, but Green Sea added two runs in the fourth to tie things at 4-4. Latta scored one run in the top of the sixth and added two more in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead, and held the Trojans to just one run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win at 7-5.
John Kever Love pitched two innings for the win on the mound, allowing just one hit, one run, and one earned run while striking out four. Christian Hendrix pitched five innings for the Vikings, striking out 11.
Austin Wisnowski took the loss for the Trojans, pitching all seven innings for four hits, seven runs, three earned runs, one walk, and three outs.
Jackson Williams led Latta at bat, going 1-for-3 with a RBI, and Lenneau Berry scored one run. The Vikings had four hits and one error in the win.
Austin Faulk led Green Sea-Floyds with a two-run homer, going 1-for-4 in the loss. The Trojans had five hits and seven errors.
Latta improved to 15-2 overall and 8-0 to stay undefeated at the top of Region 8A.
The Vikings will be at Lamar tonight at 6:30 p.m. and will host Hannah-Pamplico on friday at 5:30 p.m. Latta will wrap up the regular season next week beginning with a trip to Lake View on Tuesday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m. Then the Vikings will host a double header against Whale Branch on Friday, April 19, at 5:00 p.m. Make plans to attend home games to support our local teams!
