The Dillon City Council discussed the possible lease of the golf course at Twin Lakes Country Club at their meeting on Monday night.
Mayor Todd Davis opened the floor for the discussion of the project.
Davis said he visited the course, and it had gone downhill. He said that he was encouraged about what the city could do without a lot of money to improve it. He said he was excited about the potential there.
The goal would be for the course to be self-supporting; however, it was noted that this was probably not going to happen the first year.
Davis said that the feedback he had been receiving from people that it would be a shame to see Dillon County not have a golf course. He said that he didn’t know of a county in the surrounding area that didn’t have one.
Councilman John Braddy said he thought the golf course was something they definitely need from the quality of life and economic development standpoints. He pointed out that the city was only interested in the golf course, not the restaurant, club, ball room or pool. He said hopefully the county would step up to the plate with them.
Councilman Johnny Eller said that some of the feedback that he had received from the public was that they were skeptical of the idea.
After some other business, the city went into an executive session to discuss the lease agreement for the golf course.
The city did not sign the lease agreement. They plan to hold a special meeting to discuss it further.
