The Latta Vikings fell 65-57 to the Carvers Bay Bears in Hemingway on Tuesday night in the first round of the Class A Lower State boys basketball playoffs.

The Bears took a 22-10 lead in the first quarter but the Vikings went 14-11 in the second to trail 33-24 at the half. Carvers Bay widened the lead again with a 16-10 third quarter, and despite a 19-16 rally from Latta in the fourth, the Bears took the win to advance in the playoffs.

Carvers Bay was led by Da’Shaun Aiken with a team-high 18 points and Shayton Durand with 16. Shaquan Durand and D. Williams each added eight points and Walter Linnen earned seven with Rayshad Dorsey and S. Hannah each earning four.

Ken’Che Page scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Vikings and Tyrell Sabb added 15 points for Latta. Travise Kinney earned six points and K. McFadden earned four with Quane’ Williams scoring three and Jordan Smith and J. Sims each adding two points for the Vikings.

Latta finishes the season with an overall record of 6-14 while Carvers Bay improves to 18-7 overall.

The Bears will move on to host Military Magnet on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Carvers Bay finished at the top of Region 7A and was ranked eighth in the state in the final regular season poll of the SCBCA.
