Latta’s junior varsity Vikings finished the season as Region 8A champs with a 9-1 record.
The Vikings won eight games in a row with a strong defense that held their opponents to an average of 23 points per game while the Viking offense scored an average of 43 points per game.
The Junior Vikings were anchored by a core group of freshmen that have been in the system for three years. Coach Chris German, now in his sixth year of coaching and his second year as head of the junior varsity program, said that the team didn’t rely on just one or two people to lead their team.
“Each game, we had different people stepping up in big situations,” he said. “This was a special group of guys that worked had every day. I pushed them to their max and they responded very well to it. It feels great to see that our hard work has paid off.”
German said the team’s motto is “Respect our past…fear our future,” and added that he would not be surprised to see this group make a run at a state championship in a few years.
“I would personally like to thank the players, fans, parents, administration, and staff for their support of our team this year,” German said. “We couldn’t have made it without you all.”
