With playoffs set to begin next week, both Dillon teams will be playing tiebreaker games tonight to determine the Region 8-2A champion and who they will face in the bracket.
The Dillon boys were tied at 8-1 in the region with the Marion Swamp Foxes heading into Wednesday night’s regular season finale. The Wildcats fell 59-49 to the Swamp Foxes in their first encounter on January 15, but won the second 74-69 on February 1.
On Wednesday, Dillon defeated Waccamaw 70-52 to improve to 9-1, but Marion defeated Mullins 63-53 to also improve to 9-1, setting up the tiebreaker game tonight in Loris at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are 17-7 overall and Marion is 18-5 for the season.
Aynor and Waccamaw will also be playing on Friday night to decide the fourth place spot in Region 8-2A. Mullins is in third place in the region.
The Lady Wildcats are also tied for the region title after falling 47-26 to Mullins on January 11 and defeating the Lady Auctioneers 64-57 on January 29. Both teams earned wins on Wednesday night to improve to 9-1, with Dillon defeating Waccamaw 58-21 and Mullins taking down Marion 56-28.
Dillon will face Mullins tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Loris to determine the region championship. The Lady Wildcats are 16-5 overall, while Mullins is 18-3.
Meanwhile, the Class A girls are set to begin Lower State playoffs on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
Latta’s Lady Vikings finished the season with a 17-2 record overall and an undefeated 10-0 record in Region 8A after defeating Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators 60-35 on Thursday night. The Lady Vikings were ranked as the number one team in girls Class A basketball in the most recent poll of the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.
Latta will host Carvers Bay on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs. The Bears are fourth in Region 7-A with a 9-9 overall record. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
Lake View’s Lady Gators finished the regular season with a 5-12 overall record, going 4-6 in Region 8A for fourth place. The Lady Gators will be on the road Monday to take on Timmonsville at 7:00 p.m. The Whirlwinds are 20-3 overall and 9-1 in Region 7A after claiming the region title on Thursday night with a 61-31 win over C.E. Murray.
Johnsonville finished second in Region 8A and Hannah-Pamplico finished third in the region.
The Class A boys tournament will begin on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
The Latta Vikings finished the regular season with a 6-12 overall record, splitting 5-5 in region play for fourth place. The Vikings added one last win on Thursday night as they defeated Lake View’s Wild Gators 54-47. On Tuesday, they’ll travel to face the Carvers Bay Bears at 7:00 pm. The Bears finished the regular season with a 16-7 overall record and an 8-2 region record for the Region 7A title.
The Lake View Wild Gators finished their season on Thursday night with 54-47 loss to Latta. Lake View finished the season with a 3-13 overall record and a 1-9 record in Region 8A. Johnsonville finished first place in the region with an undefeated 10-0 record, with Hannah-Pamplico in second and Green Sea-Floyds in third.
