Fifty residents of 16 South Carolina counties including Dillon may be eligible to receive pre-employment training, heavy equipment operator training and/or commercial drivers’ license training in the field of highway construction.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has recently awarded a Transportation Careers Training Program (TCTP) grant to A2 Consulting, a Rock-Hill based disadvantage business enterprise (DBE).
The grant will be used to train unemployed, underemployed, minorities, women and disadvantaged individuals for transportation related jobs in the highway construction industry.
The one-year grant provides pre-employment training, heavy equipment operator training and/or commercial drivers’ license training for 50 individuals.
Individuals must reside in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg and Williamsburg counties.
The TCTP is sponsored by the SCDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (South Carolina Division Office).
This program will provide opportunities for individuals to obtain a commercial drivers’ license, certification as a heavy equipment operator and National Center for Construction Education and Research certification.
A key challenge employer’s face today is finding candidates who have the skills needed to become employed in the highway construction industry.
The TCTP will provide opportunities for individuals to gain construction-related skills, which will increase the opportunity for them to have a career in the highway construction industry.
To learn more about the TCTP, contact TCTP Administrator Christel Allen from A2 Consulting, at (803) 329-4470, or email at callen@a2consulting.us.
