Whether it’s the Dillon County Council, the Dillon City Council, the Latta Town Council or the Lake View Town Council, many people do not pay enough attention to their local government.
It usually takes some spark to get people interested, and even then very few people take the time to get involved with their local government.
Our local government is important because the decisions they make affect us from everything to trash pick-up to raising taxes and fees.
Take the time this year to get involved with your local government. Attend a meeting. Write a letter to the editor about a topic that is important to you. Take part in a community activity, but whatever your do get involved and become an informed citizen.
The more involved we become in our government, the more accountable our leaders will be and the more they will listen to our opinions and the more we, as citizens, will affect the direction of our communities and our county.
