CLEMSON—Dillon, SC native Dr. Dixon Lee, Jr. was inducted into the South Carolina Dairy Hall of Fame at a ceremony at Clemson University recently.
Lee’s contributions to the dairy industry in our state and beyond cannot be measured. His tireless efforts to improve milk production, animal health, and managing animal waste have had a long lasting impact on the industry.
Following his graduation from Dillon High School, Lee attended Clemson College where he earned an undergraduate and graduate degree in Dairy Science with two years of military service in between. After returning home and managing his family’s dairy operation he decided to pursue his Doctorate Degree in Nutrition and Biochemistry at North Carolina State University.
Upon receiving his degree from NC State he was offered a position as Assistant Dean of Agriculture at Southern Illinois University where he perfected his skills and knowledge to later accept a position with Clemson University as the Dean of Dairy Science.
While at Clemson, Lee focused on animal nutrition and waste management.
Speaking on Dr. Lee’s behalf, Dr. Tom Dobbins, Associate Professor for Agriculture & Biological Engineering, stated that no one ever was more committed or worked harder at his job than Dr. Lee Dobbins added that he was a positive contributor for the South Carolina Dairy Industry and for Clemson University.
In his retirement, Lee and his wife Anne Moore Lee, are busy enjoying time spent with their children Rebecca, Sarah, Dixon III and John who have been contributing to the size of the Lee family in recent years with grandchildren.
Lee and his wife spend time each year at the State Fair volunteering and working with young people who show both dairy and beef cattle. Dr. Lee’s portrait will be hung in a hallway in the Plant and Animal Science Building at Clemson University beside many other individuals that have, like him, earned the honor of being inducted into the South Carolina Dairy Hall of Fame.
