Miracle Harley, who pled guilty in August to having a loaded gun at Dillon High School at the end of last school year, was sentenced on Thursday by Judge Paul Burch to five years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Harley received a sentence of five years on assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, a sentence of five years on carrying a weapon on school grounds, and a sentence of 90 days on disturbing schools.  All sentences will run concurrently.
Because the charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature is a violent offense, Harley will have to serve 85% of the five years.
“This is a sad situation for this young lady who made a poor decision that day but otherwise had never been in any trouble,” said Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel, who handled the case.  “But we have a duty to protect our community and to send a message that carrying a gun to school will not be tolerated.”
Because she had a baby a week before her sentencing, Harley was ordered to begin serving her sentence on January 11, 2013.
Until then, she will continue wearing her GPS ankle monitor.
