Maxine Blum Koss, age 69, of Myrtle Beach, SC and Charlotte, NC passed away on November 5, 2012 after an extended illness.  Maxine was born December 13, 1942 in Darby, PA to the late Jennie and Bertram Blum of Myrtle Beach, SC.  After spending much of her childhood in Latta, SC she graduated from McClenaghan High School in Florence, SC.  She earned a diploma in Dental Assisting from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC, and later in life, an A.A. in Business Administration with honors from Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
Instilled with strong values for family togetherness and continuity, she developed a passion for genealogy and family history.  With more than twenty five years of research she traced her ancestry to the 17th century.  She held a special place in her heart for her many friends in Latta and Dillon, SC and was always eager to share stories from her childhood.  She fondly remembered her newlywed years with her new family in Quincy, MA.
Maxine and her family lived in Myrtle Beach for nearly forty years, where she treasured the closeness she had with her parents.  She spent much of her career in finance with Myrtle Beach’s daily newspaper, The Sun News, and was awarded the Administration Employee of the Year in 1989.
Surviving are her loving husband of 44 years, Richard; son, Michael and his wife Jennifer of Charlotte; sisters, Loretta and husband Steven Michael of Southern Shores, NC, and Muriel and husband Richard Mendel of Roswell, GA; sister-in-law, Judi Greenfield and husband Normie of Braintree, MA; special friend, Jean Lee of Latta, SC; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Hebrew Cemetery of Charlotte. Shiva minyan was held Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Israel in Charlotte.
