Latta – Alice Bishop Gaddy,100, passed away at her home on October 24, 2012. A Celebration of her life will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Latta United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. in the Men’s Bible class at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Gaddy was born in Berkeley County on September 21, 1912, the daughter of the late Benjamin Benson and Laura B. Bishop. She was educated in the Latta schools and attended Winthrop College. She was married to William L. Gaddy who predeceased her. Mrs. Gaddy, known as “Miss Alice” taught the kindergarden class at the Latta United Methodist Church for over 55 years. Her church celebrated her 100th birthday on September 23. She was a member of many civic clubs throughout the years and was an active volunteer in other organizations. She retired from the Dillon County Voter Registration Board. She was known as an excellent cook and loved to bake cakes and cookies for her friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Abbott Shelley; two grandchildren; Pam Camp and Kelly DeJong, three great grandchildren; Garrett Camp, Jakob DeJong, and Rylie DeJong, many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Jane Gaddy Shelley.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Latta United Methodist Church, 306 North Marion St., Latta, SC 29565.
