The Little Pee Dee State Park recently opened a new courtesy dock on Lake Norton.
The dock extends 75 feet and is 40 feet wide with handrails and toe rails. It is ADA accessible with a sidewalk leading from the parking area to the dock.
The project was completed with funding from the Department of Natural Resources water recreation tax fund allocated for Dillon County. Representative Jackie Hayes assisted the park in securing the funds.
The dock marks the first new construction at the park since 1992. Park Manager Geoff Akins says they plan to continue to work to improve improve the dock area and will be adding fencing around the area.
The dock should attract more fishermen to the still waters of Lake Norton. The 54-acre lake is stocked with bream, bass, and catfish for those who want to spend a quiet day fishing. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.
But the dock is also available for other events as well. Akins says a wedding has already been planned on the dock, and that others have expressed interest in holding events there.
The park is located at 1298 State Park Road in Dillon, SC. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with office hours from 11 am to noon daily. Admission to the park is free.
