New teachers were welcomed to Dillon District Four at a luncheon held in their honor at Twin Lakes Country Club on Friday, August 10th.
Several District Four School Board members were in attendance at the luncheon including Ethel Taylor, Mike McRae, Earl Gleason Jr., Kenneth Bethea, and Alex Lewis.
First Citizens Bank has sponsored the event for more than 20 years. Ray Stephens, vice-president of the bank, said they understand that teachers are overworked and underpaid and they were happy to be able to continue to sponsor this event. He wished them nothing but the best for the coming school year.
After a delicious lunch, District Four Superintendent Ray Rogers spoke about some of the happenings in the district. He said they were overjoyed about the new Dillon Middle School. He also spoke about the complete makeover in Lake View. “I’m very proud of what we have been able to accomplish,” said Rogers, who said this was just the first phase of what is to be done. He said he is happy for the kids in the district.
Rogers also said that the State Supreme Court will be meeting again in September about the equity in funding lawsuit that has been going on since 1993. He said there may be some bigger and better things coming.
District level employees in attendance were introduced. Then each principal introduced each of their new teachers and gave a brief biography. There were a total of 47 new teachers as of the date of the luncheon.
