The Latta Vikings picked up their first win of the season on Friday as they shut out host East Clarendon 34-0.

The Vikings scored a touchdown in the first to lead 6-0 and scored 16 points each in the second and third innings for the win.

Latta’s R.J. McClam made four of those five touchdowns, rushing for 207 yards. Ken’Che Page made a 65-yard touchdown pass, and Brandon Moultrie caught three passes for the Vikings. Donell Stanley made eight tackles with six for loss to lead Latta’s defense, and Buck Terry forced two fumbles.

East Clarendon had 54 yards rushing and 147 yards passing for a total of 201 yards. Marquice Elmore caught four passes for 120 yards. On defense for the Wolverines, Brandon Shaw had nine tackles and Joeshawn McElveen made eight.

The win gives Latta a 1-1 record for the season, while East Clarendon starts the season with the loss at 0-1.

This week, Latta will face the undefeated Dillon Wildcats. Latta hasn’t won against Dillon in over a decade, and hasn’t scored against the Wildcats since 2008. Dillon shut out Latta 43-0 in 2011.
