The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Latta High School Library.
Notices of the meeting were duly exercised and published per school board policy.
Trustees present were: Kyle Berry, Edward Bethea, Betty Jo Johnson, Kenneth Kitts and Eddie Watson. Linda James was absent.
Chair Betty Jo Johnson called the meeting to order and Dr. Kirby opened the meeting with prayer. Chair Johnson welcomed all present.
There being no additions or correction to the March 13, 2012 minutes, Chair Johnson ruled that they stand approved.
Attorney LaFon LeGette presented an affidavit for signing which will transfer the property (auditorium & parking area) to the Latta School Educational Foundation.
Attorneys Bick Halligan and Kimberly Blackburn discussed with Board the policies regarding non-resident students. Actions on these policies were tabled and will be discussed further at the May 8th Board meeting.
Donna Taylor presented a status report on the General Fund Budget for February 2012. Upon Esther Roger’s recommendation, the following motions were made:
• Motion to approve the writing of the Federal Projects. Vote was unanimous.
• Motion to approve the 2012 updates to the District Strategic Plan (2007-2012) was made by Eddie Watson and seconded by Kenneth Kitts. Vote was unanimous,
Robert McIntyre presented the 135-Day Report.
Principal George Liebenrood highlighted accomplishments at Latta Middle School and Latta High School for the 2011-2012 school year.
Larry Legette gave an update on the school facilities.
Upon Dr. Kirby’s recommendation, a motion to approve the hiring of Jodie Peele, Mealnie Solter, Heather Carter, and if budget permitted Jim O’Hern was made by Edward Bethea and seconded by Kenneth Kitts. Vote was unanimous.
The Board was informed of staff resignations for school year 2102 by Wendy McDaniel, Michael Rogers, Angie Richardson, Shannon Walker-Spivey and Kelly Clouse.
A motion to nominate Betty Jo Johnson for a South Carolina School Boards Association director position was made by Kyle Berry and seconded by Edward Bethea. Vote was unanimous.
Motion was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Eddie Watson to accept as first reading and waive second reading of policies IJNDB and IJNDB-R. Vote was unanimous.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Eddie Watson and seconded by Kyle Berry. Vote was unanimous.
