The Dillon Wildcats claimed the District 8 title in the Class AA Baseball playoffs on Wednesday with a 12-2 win over Academic Magnet, but fell 7-1 to Bishop England on Saturday in the first round of the Lower State playoffs.

In Wednesday’s District 8 finale, Daniel Huggins picked up the win on the mound, with five Wildcats hitting doubles to defeat the Academic Magnet Raptors 12-2 in five innings.

In Saturday’s game, Jamie Callahan suffered his first loss on the mound this season, allowing four earned runs in four innings.

Callahan scored the Wildcats’ only run of the game with a solo home run in the first inning. The Battling Bishops scored five runs in the fourth inning to secure the win and advance in the playoffs.

Dillon was scheduled to host Marion in the loser bracket game on Monday night. The Wildcats won both of their previous encounters with the Swamp Foxes this season, and if successful, they’ll travel to face the loser of Monday’s game between Bishop England and Hanahan on Wednesday night. The Lower State championship will be decided on Friday, May 11. Be sure to check thedillonherald.com for the latest playoff updates!
