Lake View’s Wild Gators edged East Clarendon’s Wolverines 2-1 on Thursday in the first round of playoffs before shutting down Military Magnet 17-2 on Saturday.
The Gators jumped out to a 1-0 lead over East Clarendon in the top of the first inning on Thursday, but the Wolverines tied things up with a run in the bottom of the second. Lake View reclaimed the lead in the top of the third, and both teams held each other off through the next four innings to give the Gators the 2-1 win.
Nate Lewis picked up the win for Lake View, pitching all seven innings and allowing just three hits, one run, and one walk, while striking out six. Kemper Cannon took the loss for East Clarendon, pitching a complete game for six hits, four walks, five outs, and two earned runs.
Chris Ford went 2-for-3 to lead Lake View at bat, with Hunter Walters going 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Gators. Lake View had six hits and one error in the win.
Ryan Knowlton went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead East Clarendon, and Austin Floyd went 1-for-3. The Wolverines had three hits and one error in the loss.
On Saturday, Lake View traveled to take on the Military Magnet Eagles and walked away with a 17-2 win. Lake View scored 10 runs in the first inning to secure the win, adding two in the second, and five in the third. The Eagles’ scored their first rn in the bottom of the first, and added the second one in the fifth when Norton reached based on an error.
John Michael Brown pitched all five innings for lake view, facing 21 batters for two hits, two runs, four outs, and one walk. Military Magnet’s Pasluy pitched four innings for 17 runs, 14 hits, five earned runs, one out, and two walks. Moultrie pitched one inning of relief for the Eagles, allowing just one hit with one out.
At bat for Lake View, Hunter Walters went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three RBIs, a stolen base, and two runs scored; Nate Lewis went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored; Chris Ford went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs scored; Steele Mendenhall went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a stolen base, and three runs scored; Roger Scott went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a stolen base, and one run scored; Eric Munoz went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored; Darius Leonard went 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored; Brody Smith went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs scored; Brent Herlong went 1-for-1; and John Michael Brown scored one run with a stolen base on a walk.
Rivers led Military Magnet at bat, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base and one run scored. Moultrie went 1-for-2, and Norton scored one run.
The Wild Gators are now 13-4 for the season.
Meanwhile, East Clarendon defeated Allendale-Fairfax 11-1 on Saturday to stay alive in the playoffs. The Wolverines were scheduled to take on Military Magnet on Monday night. Lake View will host the winner of the game on Wednesday, May 2, at 5:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
