Dillon Christian School opened the season with losses as the Warriors struggled to find their footing after a season away from varsity baseball action.

On Thursday, March 1, the Warriors hosted Fairmont’s Golden Tornadoes and took a 16-6 loss. Fairmont got eight runs in the first and six in the second to lead 14-0 at the third. The Warriors got on the board with four runs in the third and added two more in the fifth, but Fairmont capped the win with two runs in the sixth to end the game.

Zack Pittman went 2-for-3 for Fairmont with a double and four RBIs; Josh Ammons went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs; Cody McKnight went 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Travis Head went 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Alex Riddle was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Ammons pitched two innings for Fairmont, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out two. Riddle pitched 1.2 innings and struck out two, allowing no hits and walking two.

On Friday, the Warriors traveled to Fairmont where Tornadoes picked up a 16-1 win. Fairmont got a whopping 14 runs in the first inning, while Dillon Christian’s only run was in the first. The Golden Tornadoes added one run each in the second and fourth to cap the win.

Zack Pittman went 2-for-3 with a triple; Tyler Britt went 1-for-1 with a triple; Chance Leggette went 1-for-4 with a triple; Cain Wilkerson went 2-for-2 with a double; Alex Riddle went 2-for-2; Tyler Gibson went 2-for-2 with a double; Tyreke Addison went 2-for-2; and Cody McKnight and Alex Britt each went 1-for-2.

Leggette picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings with just two hits and two walks, striking out five.

On Tuesday, the Warriors traveled to Lake City to face Carolina Academy and were shut out 15-0 by the Bobcats i three innings.

Carolina Academy’s Colby McFaddin pitched all three innings, striking out one. Troy Davis took the loss for Dillon Christian.

The Bobcats were led by Grayson McClam, 3-for-5 with five RBI; Garrett Weaver, 2-for-3 with three RBI; Vance Timmons, 2-for-3 with two RBI; and Dylan Moore, 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Warriors slip to 3-0 overall. For many of the Warriors, it’s the first season they’ve seen varsity baseball action – Dillon Christian School did not field a varsity baseball team in 2011.

The Warriors will be looking to improve throughout the season, with their next chance coming on Friday when the Warriors travel to face The Byrnes School Trojans at 4:00 p.m.
