The Latta Lady Vikings defeated the Carvers Bay Bears 63-40 in Hemingway on Tuesday in girls basketball action.
Latta took a 9-7 lead by the end of the first, and both teams added 15 points in the second for a 24-22 game at the half. But the Lady Vikings returned to the court to dominate, outscoring Carvers Bay 20-5 in the third and 19-13 in the fourth to claim the win.
Ta’Keria Legette scored 23 points to lead Latta in the win, with Jessica Evans adding 18 and Brittany Burgess scoring 11. Tianna Deberry scored six and Maya Wright sank one, with Jocelyn Vereen and Kierra Johnson each adding two.
Carvers Bay was led by Jasmine Eaddy with a game-high 27 points. Jasmine Cobb added six, Desaree Green scored five, Alexis Waterman added two, and Amber Linnen and Dominique Dollard each scored one point for the Bears.
The Lady Vikings are now 10-5 overall and 8-1 in Region 8A.
On Friday, Latta will travel to face Green Sea-Floyds, and next week the Vikings finish out the regular season with home games against Johnsonville on Tuesday and Lake View on Thursday. Each game starts at 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local teams!
