Latta’s Lady Vikings added another win on Wednesday, January 25, as they defeated Dillon’s Lady Wildcats 53-45.

Both teams earned 10 points in the first quarter, but Dillon pulled ahead in the second as the Wildcats outscored the Vikings 13-8 to lead 23-18 at the half. But Latta returned to the court to take the lead as they went 14-8 in the third, and they took the win by outscoring Dillon 21-14 in the final quarter.

Tianna Deberry led the Lady Vikings with a game-high 23 points, including four of five three-point attempts and five of eight free throws. Deberry also grabbed six rebounds with three steals and two assists.

Jessica Evans and Jocelyn Vereen each added seven points, with Evans getting two steals and one rebound, and Vereen grabbing 12 rebounds with one block. Brittany Burgess scored six points, going two-for-three in free throws with seven rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and one block.

Ta’Keria Legette scored five points with five rebounds, six assists, and two steals, and Maya Wright scored three points, grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds with three assists. Kierra Johnson sank a two-pointer with three rebounds, one steal, and one assist, and Silesia Braddy grabbed six rebounds for Latta.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Chelsea Frazier with a team-high 21 points. Khadejhia Sellers and Briana Lee each scored eight points, and Kedisha Davis added six, with Shayna Covington earning two.

Latta’s record improves to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in Region 8A. The Lady Vikings only region loss came from Hemingway before the Christmas break. Latta hasn’t lost a game since returning to action in January.

The Lady Wildcats are now 14-6 overall and 4-2 in Region 8AA.

Tonight, the Vikings will travel to face Carver’s Bay at 6:00 p.m., while Dillon will be hosting Mullins at 6:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
