This week’s recipe is a rerun, but is back by popular demand. It is an old family recipe that my Aunt Ora McCormac passed down to me.

Rue’s Shaggy Dogs
(Date Balls)

1/2 stick margarine
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 cup chopped dates

Combine first four ingredients in heavy-bottomed pot and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, then add
1 cup chopped nuts (finely chopped)
2 cups Rice Krispies

Stir nuts and cereal in cooled mixture until well combined. Cool mixture until you can handle with ease. Roll into small balls. Roll balls in coconut or powdered sugar- or both. Helps to spray hands with Pam before rolling out balls. I refrigerate these until ready to serve.
