The Dillon Wildcats edged the Waccamaw Warriors 55-53 on Tuesday in boys basketball action in Dillon.
Waccamaw got off to one point 11-10 lead in the first quarter and outscored Dillon 14-11 in the second to lead 25-21. But a big push from the Wildcats in the third added 22 points for Dillon, putting them ahead 43-37. The Warriors rallied to outscore Dillon 16-12 in the fourth, but the Wildcats held them off just long enough to claim the win, sinking three of four free throws in the final moments of the game.
Breon Page led the Wildcats with 15 points, with Jalik Bethea adding 13 and Kwinton Smith earning 12. Eri’Reon Hayes scored four, and Lavaris Hargrove and Julius Saunders each added three, while John Caulder and Maurice Williams each earned two.
A.J. Grant led Waccamaw with 14 points, followed by Dejon Frasier with 10, and Noah Gulley and Blake Dwyzer with eight points each. Taylor King added four points for the Warriors, with Todd Middleton and Terven Newhagen each earning three.
Dillon is now 8-10 overall and 3-2 in Region 8-AA.
The Wildcats were scheduled to host the Latta Vikings on Wednesday. On Friday, Dillon will travel to face Aynor at 6:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, January 31, the Wildcats will host Mullins for Dillon’s final home game of the regular season.
