The South Carolina Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll recently ranked the Dillon Wildcats in fifth place in Class AA while Lake View was ranked fourth and Latta tenth in Class A.
Gilbert topped the Class AA list, followed by Emerald, Hanahan, and Bishop England, with Dillon in fifth, followed by Palmetto, Mid-Carolina, Chesnee, Broome, and Woodruff.
Dillon’s 2011 team made it to the District VI finals before being eliminated by Bishop England. They finished the season with an 11-9 record.
In Class A, Chesterfield was ranked first, followed by Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Lewisville, and Lake View in fourth place. Abbeville placed fifth, followed by Landrum, Ninety-Six, Johnsonville, and Christ Church, with Latta rounding out the list in tenth.
Lake View claimed the 2011 Lower State Championship before falling to Chesterfield in the state title series, finishing with a 26-3 overall record.
Latta finished the 2011 season with a 16-7 record after being eliminated from the lower state playoffs by Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
The 2012 baseball season won’t be officially underway for a while, but fans can look forward to the Latta Invitational Tournament in late February.
