The Dillon Christian School Warriors and Lady Warriors basketball teams participated in the Domino’s Pee Dee Turkey Shootout last week, playing teams from around the area.
The first opponent on for the Lady Warriors on Monday, November 21, was Lamar, with the Silver Foxes earning a 36-23 win over Dillon Christian. The Lady Warriors got off to a nice start with a 7-0 lead at the end of the first, but Lamar added 12 points in the second to DCS’s 4 to give them a 12-11 lead at the half. Lamar then outscored Dillon Christian 16-4 in the third before the teams tied 8-8 in the fourth for the 36-23 finish.
Lauren Lee led the Lady Warriors in the game with 10 points including five two-pointers. Kathryn Brown added five points, Emily Prutzman added four, and Kylee Sullivan added three. Brown and Prutzman each sank two two-pointers and Sullivan made one. Jamie Carpenter earned one point, and Carpenter, Brown, and Sullivan were each 1-for-2 on free throws.
Brown grabbed 10 rebounds in the game and Prutzman grabbed nine. Courtney Miller and Lee each grabbed two, and Amanda Bass and Hailee Keen each picked up one rebound. Bass made one block, and Bass and Lee each made three steals with Sullivan making one. Lee and Brown each made two assists and Sara Fitzgibbon, Sullivan, and Prutzman each made one. Lee also made 15 turnovers, and Bass had nine.
Yashia Pauley led Lamar with 14 points.
Despite the loss, Dillon Christian’s Lady Warriors proceeded in the tournament, taking on the Lady Warriors of Creek Bridge on Tuesday, November 22. Creek Bridge outscored Dillon Christian in every period – 12-2, 10-6, 11-7, and 12-4 – for a final score of 45-19.
On Wednesday, November 23, the Lady Warriors took on Thomas Sumter Academy. Thomas Sumter outscored Dillon Christian 14-0 and 6-1 to lead 20-1 at the half. The Lady Warriors added six points in the third to Thomas Sumter’s four, but Thomas Sumter outscored them 12-3 in the fourth for a final score of 36-10.
Kristen Suddeth scored 10 points for Thomas Sumter Academy to earn them seventh place in the tournament.
In the boys tournament, the Warriors took on West Florence in their first round match on Monday, November 21, and fell to the Knights 85-34.
The Knights were led by Tanner Elgin with 14 points and Kelso Wright with 13.
The Warriors also faced The Byrnes Schools on Wednesday, November 23, and fell 49-42.
The Warriors were led by Kin Melvin and Neil Melvin, who each scored 11 points. Jeremiah Cribb earned six points, Landry Collins scored 2, and Will Brown and Matthew Price each scored five.
The Trojans were led by Kalin McFadden with 19 points and Jay Hunt with 14. Dyeshawn Jones added 10 and Justin Robinson added six. Byrnes took seventh place in the tournament.
