The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to replace the bridge over Interstate 95 along road S-17-63 (Catfish Church Road) near Latta in Dillon County.
Due to the relatively low traffic volumes, and to minimize the replacement duration, cost, and impact to property owners in the area, the road will be closed and traffic detoured during replacement. The current plan is for the detour to use S-17-48 (Bethel Road), S-17-29 (Skillet Road), S-17-38 (Centerville Road), and S-17-54 (Bay Catfish Road). The road will be closed beginning Nov. 28.
Scheduled completion of the project is summer 2013.
The bridge improvements will accommodate the future Interstate 73 and Interstate 95 interchange. The existing secondary 63 bridge spans the existing I-95 four lane median divided typical section. Future improvements for the I-73 and I-95 interchange include additional lanes for entering and exiting I-73, which requires a longer bridge to span I-95.
The construction project was awarded to C. R. Jackson, Inc., of Columbia.
