The well planned and long anticipated celebration of the 120th anniversary of First Baptist Church came to fruition on Sunday, October 16, 2011, with almost 400 people in attendance.
The 10:30 service began with a hymn presented in sign language by the group of impaired hearing members. The impressive presentation was followed by a warm welcome by Dr. Dickie Cullum, Pastor.
The order of service was basically as usual except for a few added specialties. For example a video from Dr. and Mrs. Frank Zedick who were unable to attend, special music including soloists, a ladies ensemble, a selection by the regular choir and the singing of beautiful traditional hymns by the congregation were enjoyed.
The guest speaker was Dr. Jimmie Epting, President of North Greenville University, who kept his hearers spell bound for about 45 minutes. He was very well received and following him, a bountiful dinner was served outside. Certainly nobody could have left the service hungry for spiritual or physical food which was presented in abundance.
Surely members of the church and their guests were inspired by all the activities of the day and especially the members encouraged to continue working “Together Toward Tomorrow.”
