Dillon’s Lady Wildcats swept region foes Loris and Aynor this week but were swept themselves by region powerhouse Waccamaw on Thursday.
Dillon first took down Loris on Tuesday, September 27, with a 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-12.
Zipporah Lighty led Dillon with 17 kills, two digs, and a block., and Lillie Celmer added seven kills four aces, three digs, and block and made 18 service points for Dillon. Rebecca Callahan made 21 assists,two digs, and an ace in the win, and Darby Hamer made seven digs, four assists, three aces, and one kill.
Dallas Rowell made two kills and one dig; Hannah McMillan made five digs and one kill; Breana Park made two digs and one kill; Shayna Covington made six digs; Taylor Price made four digs; Pam Robinson made three digs; and Dezirae Wright made two digs.
On Thursday, September 28, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Waccamaw for a close match with the Warriors, who are undefeated in the region.
Waccamaw took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19, but the Lady Wildcats rallied in the third. It wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Warriors, though, as the final score was 29-27 in favor of Waccamaw.
Lighty again led Dillon with 12 kills and three blocks, and Celmer added seven kills and a block. Covington made eight digs, three aces, an assist, and a kill, and Callahan made 19 assists and five digs.
Hamer made four digs, two aces, an assist, and a kill; McMillan made three digs and two aces; Price made five digs and one ace; Robinson made two kills and one dig; and Rowell made two kills and one assist. Price and McMillan each had nine service points for Dillon.
On Monday, the Lady Wildcats were back at home to host the Aynor Blue Jackets for another sweep.
Dillon overpowered Aynor 25-15 in game one, but the Lady Blue Jackets put up more of a fight in games two and three. It still wasn’t enough to top Dillon as the Lady Wildcats finished with scores of 26-24 and 25-23 to win the match.
Lighty and Celmer again led the way with Lighty making 12 kills and three blocks and Celmer making four aces, two blocks, one dig, and two kills.
Taylor Price scored 19 service points for Dillon, getting four aces and eight digs along the way.
Callahan made 19 assists, nine digs, and an ace; Covington made 13 digs, two kills, an ace, and an assist; Hamer made 10 digs and three kills; McMillan made six digs; Robinson made two kills, two digs, and an ace; and Rowell made two kills and two digs.
With the week’s games, Dillon is now 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the region. The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Mullins tonight at 6:00 p.m. for their next region match, and will travel on Monday, October 10 to face Marlboro County, and on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. match against Marion.
