The 3rd Annual Dillon County Shrimp Caster’s Contest was held Sunday, August 28 at Brownie and Kathi Campbell’s pool. Eight casters competed in the seven foot and eight foot nets and for the first time a three foot net contest. The contestants were given three throws with a possible 60 points given for both accuracy and net shape.

In the most competitive contest thus held, Jerry Richardson won both the three foot and the seven foot throws. Jerry edged Michael Goodwin (2nd Place) and Dennis Grubb (3rd Place) by a narrow margin in the three foot competition. Due to its small dimensions this new throw is the most difficult to accurately toss.

Jerry’s win in the seven foot throw was extremely close as he again out scored Michael Goodwin by only a few tenths of a point. Richard Calhoun was a close 3rd place winner.
The eight foot net competition was taken for the second year in a row with the highest score (53.6 out of 60) recorded by David McLaurin. Michael Goodwin, once again, placed second; the only time in the contest’s history a thrower has placed second in all three events. First time contestant, Daniel Coleman, placed a strong third.

The veteran judges, Kathi Campbell, Mr. Tommy Squires, and John Alford did an exemplary job in determining the winners in this extremely close contest. All of the contestants were quality throwers.

The contestants and spectators enjoyed a Frogmore Stew prepared by Woody Monahan and Marion Tracy Pelt.
