Shown in these photos is the construction occurring for the new Dillon Middle School, which will be located on the campus of the existing Dillon High School. The middle school will be a 128,000 sq. ft., 850 student, 6th-8th grade facility. It will be a traditional middle school concept with a main core, gymnasium, media center, three classroom wings an d a cafeteria.
At the last Dillon County Board of Education meeting, the board was informed by Rodney Alexander of Cumming SMG that the site demolition was 75 percent complete; the retention ponds, all of which will be fenced in, were 80 percent complete, the storm water system was 40 percent complete, the building water services underground were 30 percent complete, the building layout was 75 percent complete; and the foundation installation was ongoing.
Design Architect Tom Hughes said they were being conscientious about sustainability and were exploring ways to save money and conserve resources. (Contributed by Rodney Alexander, Cumming SMG) [slide]
