To The Editor:
A great big “Hats off” to Gerald Powell for again taking the time to organize the Golf Cart Parade through the streets of the city on Monday, July 4th. This year, he really outdid himself with an un-official count of more than 50 carts, which was up quite a few from last year’s event. There were red ones, blue ones, garnet and black ones.even an orange one, and many other colors. One participant even had patriotic music bellowing out of his cart’s speakers and everybody had at least one American Flag attached somewhere. Even though the temperature was hovering around the 95 degree mark, some people ventured out of the home air conditioning to wave at the procession that covered three blocks. Moving like we were, there were not too many complaints on how hot it was on the route. On behalf of Gerald and the rest of the participants, thanks Dillon. Maybe you can decorate yours next year and join the crowd for an hour of pure enjoyment. By the way,
thanks to 1st Sergeant Harold Carmichael of the City Police Department, who is Officer Friendly at Gordon Elementary and other schools, for getting the parade safely through the few high traffic areas along the route!
