Beatrice Evelyn Szabo Rogers (86) passed away on July 19, 2011. She was the daughter of the late August John and Maggie Farr Szabo. She made her home in Blenheim, SC most of her adult life. She most recently resided at Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee in Florence, SC following several years in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Bea is preceded in death by her husband, Scott Sheppard Rogers and is survived by her four daughters: Evelyn MacIntyre (Sidney) of Conway, SC, Suanne Barlow of Tampa, FL, Beth Williams (Ricky) of Blenheim, SC and Janice Wyatt (Jeff) of Columbia, SC; eight grandchildren: Scott (Grace) and Lucy MacIntyre, Katie and Jamey Williams, Thomas, Nicholas, Hampton, and Maggie Wyatt; and one great-grandson: Hudson Sheppard MacIntyre. She is also survived by her brother, A. J. Szabo of Brentwood, TN.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Bea graduated from Baton Rouge High School (’42) and attended Louisiana State University (1942-44). She graduated from Vanderbilt University (’47) as part of the US Cadet Nurse Corps. For a brief time after graduation, she was employed by Vanderbilt as a recruiter for their nursing program. She first trained in psychiatry in New York at Payne Whitney Pavilion, New York Hospital, then worked in pediatric nursing at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA. After marrying in 1951, Bea was a full-time wife, homemaker and mother. Bea Bea, as she was fondly called by many once she became a grandmother, was lovingly devoted to her family. She is remembered by family and friends for her joy in serving, teaching, and hospitality. Bea was a prayer warrior throughout her life as she faithfully served her Lord through His church.
A private family burial will be held at Rogers Family Cemetery in the Bristow Community directed by Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon. A memorial service will be held at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 308 W. Main Street, Bennettsville, SC on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service.
