Teen Miss Murrells Inlet, Taylor Lauren Herlong, was crowned South Carolina’s Outstanding Teen 2011 at the Little Miss/Teen Miss South Carolina Pageant held at Hartsville’s Center Theater the week of June 11-18.
Teen Miss Preliminaries were held on Thursday, June 16, where Herlong was named Miss Congeniality, a Top Twelve Finalist for Teen Miss South Carolina, a Top Five Finalist for South Carolina’s Outstanding Teen, a Helping Hands recipient, and the Sweetheart Award.
Competition continued on Saturday, where she claimed the title of South Carolina’s Outstanding Teen and was honored as Fourth Runner-Up to Teen Miss South Carolina. Along with her official South Carolina’s Outstanding Teen crown, banner, and scepter, Taylor was also awarded a $5000 scholarship, crown pin, trophy, magnetic car signs, and designer pendant.
The South Carolina’s Outstanding Teen title is awarded based on overall interview scores, academic excellence, and community service.
Taylor is a 2011graduate of Lake View High School, where she was Salutatorian of her class, a Varsity Cheerleader, Anchor and Producer for the Gator TV Morning News, Miss Lake View High School 2009, and a member and officer of numerous organizations and activities. She will be attending the University of South Carolina in the fall as a Pre-Pharmacy major.
Taylor is the daughter of Kip and Liz Herlong of Marion and the granddaughter of Larry and Cynthia McIntyre and Bobby and Ann Herlong, all of Marion.
