The June term of General Sessions (Criminal) Court in Dillon concluded last week with over 130 indictments disposed of and 27 people moved from the county jail. Judge Paul Burch presided.
“It was a very productive week,” said Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel. “Working with law enforcement and the jail staff, we were able to move several big cases.”
Daniel also thanked Chief Public Defender Michael Stephens’ staff and Clerk of Court Gwen Hyatt’s staff for their work.
Among those cases moved are Jackie Johnson, Jr. (assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, attempted armed robbery – 8.5 years), Nicholas Lampley (strong arm robbery – 8.5 years), Randall McMillan (drugs – 16 months), Tyron Scott (assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, attempted armed robbery, burglary – 13.5 years), and Jeffery Turbeville (armed robbery – 15 years).
Several cases were prepared for trial, but all pled guilty before a jury was ever selected.
The next term of General Sessions Court in Dillon is scheduled for July 11, 2011.
