Latta’s Red Raiders will be holding an “Old Timers” alumni baseball game and home run derby on Saturday, June 4 at the Latta Recreation field.
The home run derby will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is open to anyone over the age of 50 who played sports for Latta.
The baseball game will be held at noon and is also open to any former Latta player age 50 or older.
Jim Braddock, who played on the 1966 state championship team, says the event seeks to honor Red Raiders past and present as well as their families. The alumni games were started about six years ago by members of the 1966 team.
Everyone is invited to attend the free event, but the Red Raiders will also be raising money for the Alex H. “Buddy” Johnson Scholarship fund. Donations to the fund are tax deductible and can be made at the field on Saturday or through Latta High School.
This year’s recipients are Matthew Rogers and Andrew Benson, who each received a $1,000 scholarship. Rogers will be headed to the Citadel in the fall, while Benson will be attending Francis Marion University.
Be sure to come out to support the Red Raiders and enjoy some great baseball action!
