Eight Latta students participated in the 2011 Track & Field State Championships held at Spring Valley High School on Saturday, May 14.
The Latta boys’ track team finished 19th out of 29 teams. In the boys’ events, Latta’s Lawson Lloyd finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.76.
In the 1600-meter run, Lloyd finished second with a time of 4:40:96, with Christ Church’s James Quattlebaum taking first with a time of 4:27.60. William Buffkin of Green Sea-Floyds finished in seventh with a time of 5:05.28.
In the 3200-meter run, Latta’s Jeremiah Hayes finished in sixth place with a time of 11:40.70, and Johnsonville’s Dylan Grey finished seventh with a time of 12:37.09.
The Lady Vikings track team finished 13 out of 32 teams, with Johnsonville finishing in first place.
In the girls’ events, Latta’s Amber Berry finished in eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.74. Johnsonville’s Quintella Dollard finished in second at 15.14 and Hemingway’s Ayanna Hudson finished sixth at 18.28.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Dollard took first place with a time of 1:06.17, and Latta’s Berry finished third at 1:08.72.
In the 4×800-meter relay, Latta finished in sixth place with a time of 11:14.84. Latta’s relay runners included Brandy McNair, Shkira Fleming, Diandra Tucker, Alexia McLeod, and Katie Williams. Johnsonville’s relay team finished in seventh with a time of 11:21.32. The Flashes included Deatria Crayton, Cayley Gunter, Makayla Davis, Aquavia Malcolm, Nicole Hanna, and Olivia Myers.
In the girls long jump, Quasheika Page finished third with a distance of 16-06.00. Johnsonville’s Keyarah Turner finished fifth with a distance of 16-04.00.
Other Region 8-A teams participating in the boys meet included Johnsonville, who finished in fifth place; Carvers Bay, who finished in 10th place; Hemingway, who finished 11th; and Green Sea-Floyds who finished 28th. Landrum claimed the Class A track title with a total of 65.50 points.
Johnsonville’s Tushai Edwards took sixth in the boys 400-meter dash. In the boys pole vault, Johnsonville’s Josh Gagliano finished second and Gage Ard finished fourth.
Hemingway’s Jabril Soloman finished second in both the boys 100-meter dash and boys 200-meter dash.
Edward Anderson of Carvers Bay finished fifth in the boys 400-meter hurdles.
In the 4×100-meter relay, Hemingway finished first and Johnsonville took third place. Carvers Bay finished first in the boys 4×400-meter relay, and Johnsonville took third. In the 4×800-meter relay, Carvers Bay finished fourth and Johnsonville took seventh.
In the girls events, Johnsonville finished in first place with 111.50 points, with Green Sea-Floyds, Carvers Bay, and Hemingway all finishing near the bottom.
Johnsonville’s Quintella Dollard finished first in both the girls 100-meter dash and girls 200-meter dash, and Johnsonville’s Crystal Williams finished seventh in the 200-meter dash.Williams finished third in the 400-meter dash, and Carvers Bay’s Amber Linnen finished seventh.
In the 800-meter run, Jasmin Farris of Green Sea-Floyds finished fourth and Johnsonville’s Aquavia Malcolm finished sixth. In the 1600-meter run, Johnsonville’s Cayley Gunter finished fifth, and in the 3200-meter run, Gunter finished sixth and Arismel Perez of Green Sea-Floyds finished eighth.
Johnsonville finished fourth in the 4×100-meter girls relay and first in the 4×400-meter girls relay. In the girls pole vault, Johnsonville’s Christina Pajoro took first place, and Johnsonville’s Deatria Crayton tied for fourth.
In girls shot put, Johnsonville’s Lakera Woodberry finished fourth and Sabrina Nesmith finished fifth, with Carvers Bay’s Akira Bazilio finished seventh. In discus throw, Johnsonville’s Shancie Hamilton finished fourth, Gabby Boatwright finished fifth, and Lakera Woodberry finished seventh. Carvers Bay’s Akira Bazilio finished eighth.
