A tornado struck the Little Rock area on Saturday afternoon downing trees and power lines, damaging buildings and homes, and leaving a path of extensive damage.
According to Moses Heyward, Disaster Preparedness Director for Dillon County, there were five houses with trees on top of them in the area of McCoy Chapel Church. One tree fell on a house in the Oakland area and then the tornado went on to the Rowland area. In one of the homes that a tree came down on, three people were taken to the emergency room and released, Heyward said.
Charles McKellar was in a home on Federal Street when the tornado came down. He said he saw it coming and described it as big and wide. He said he heard it and that others thought it was rain, but he saw the tornado and it was twirling. He said it was snatching trees in its path. A huge tree fell into the home that he was at.
The Herald is told by citizens in various areas that hail fell in the Floyd Dale and Latta area while other areas of the county had high wind. Rowland, NC, just across the border, was reported to have severe damage.
