After back-to-back region losses, the Latta Vikings were back to form this week with a 15-1 win over Creek Bridge on Monday and 8-0 and 10-1 wins over Carvers Bay in a double header on Tuesday.
The Vikings defeated Creek Bridge in just three innings, with both teams scoring runs in the first. Latta made nine in the second and five in the third to give them the 15-1 win.
River Owens was the winning pitcher, going all three innings and allowing only one hit and one earned run. He struck out six.
Lead hitters for Latta were Owens, 2-for-3 with a home run; Donell Stanley, 2-for-3 with a double; and Josh Bowen, 2-for-3 with three runs.
On Tuesday, Latta played host to the Carvers Bay Bears for a double header that added two wins for the Vikings.
Latta swept game one 8-0 with four runs in the first inning. The Vikings added two in the third and one each in the second and fourth innings of the five inning game.
John Kever Love was the winning pitcher for the Vikings, pitching all five innings and allowing only two hits, striking out six. The losing pitcher was Carvers Bay’s McLean, who pitched all four innings for the Bears and allowed eight runs, six earned runs, and six hits, striking out one.
Donell Stanley was the lead hitter for Latta, going 2-for-2.
In game two, Carvers Bay managed one run in the third, but Latta took an early lead with three runs in the first and second for a 6-1 lead. Three more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth were enough to give the Vikings the 10-1 win.
Kyle Arrington was the winning pitcher for Latta, pitching in all five innings and allowing only one run, one earned run, three hits, and one walk. Arrington struck out 10.
The losing pitcher was Carvers Bay’s Lasane, who pitched four innings for nine runs, five earned runs, and eight hits, striking out four.
Donell Stanley was again the lead hitter for Latta, going 2-for-2.
Latta’s overall record improves to 11-4 with the wins, while their region record improves to 6-2 in Region 8-A.
Tonight, Latta is scheduled to host Green Sea-Floyds at 5:30 p.m. On Monday, April11, they’ll host Mullins for a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. Be sure to come out and support your local team!
