The home of a man and his four children on Bermuda Road burned last week.
Kenneth “Bunny” Scott said he woke up Tuesday morning about 2 a.m. and smelled smoke in his home.
Scott said he doesn’t believe that the smoke woke him up because he usually gets up two or three times a night, but when he woke up he barely smelled smoke in the house that he built mostly himself. He checked the stairwell to the attic and realized the house was on fire.
Scott said he got his four children safely out of the house, and the fire escalated.
“I thank God that me and the kids got out,” said Scott.
Scott said he was told by firefighters that it took 11,000 gallons of water to put out the blaze.
Scott said it appears that the fire started upstairs in the attic because that is where the smoke was coming from. He does not know the cause.
Scott is not sure that he will be able to build back and may have to look into getting some type of mobile home instead.
Scott said since the fire he has been overwhelmed by the number of people who care. He said some people have offered prayer, donated money and clothes. He is very thankful and appreciative for the concern of his friends, neighbors and church family.
“God has a way of bringing something good out of every thing that happens,” said Scott.
If you would like to help the Scott family with a donation, you may send it to the Dillon Church of God, P.O. Box 573, Dillon, S.C. 29536.
