Dear Editor:
As we conclude another month of celebrating African American history, I would like to acknowledge the contribution of one of your guest columnists. I thoroughly enjoyed the two-part documentary written by Apostle Michael Goings. I found it quite interesting that there are pertinent facts relative to my culture that I am completely unaware of, even though I have lived in Dillon all my life.
As an educator, I have always felt that the realm of African American history cannot be confined to only one month. Our legacy is so vast and has affected the world as we know it; consequently, we must believe its significance should be stressed everyday of the year. With this premise, I would love to see a regular column in The Dillon Herald about information and facts related to African Americans, written from the African American perspective. Apostle Goings was able to highlight little-known facts in his documentary that were first-hand accounts of African American history here in Dillon County. I believe that the people of Dillon County need to hear some good things. Our children need to know how we have contributed to society.
In conclusion, thank you for printing the two-part documentary written by Apostle Goings. I hope you will consider continuing the column in future issues of The Dillon Herald.
