Reverend Bill Bragg Williams, 80, died Monday, March 7, 2011, in the Methodist Manor in Florence, SC. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday March 7, 2011, in Latta United Methodist Church with visitation following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta is assisting the family.
Rev. Williams was born in Tampa, Florida, May 5, 1930, the son of the late Carolyn McLeod and Ira E. Williams. A graduate of Oklahaoma State University and Southern Methodist University with a Master’s of Divinity Degree. He served the Methodist Church in Oklahoma, Florida, and South Carolina for fifty six years. Additionally, he was the Dean of Continuing at Greenville Technical College. He was a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society, Sertoma Club, a two time President of the Lion’s Club, a two time president of the Kiwanis, a member of the Rotary Club, and President of the Dillon County Historical Society. He was on the Board of Dillon County Communites in Schools, a Co-Chair of Save the Edwards House in Latta, on the Board of Grace and Gladness Ministries, and a former “Man of the Year” of Latta, SC. In 2007 he was named Pastor Emeritus of the Latta United Methodist Church. Rev. Williams had served the following churches in South Carolina: Grace United Methodist Church, Pickens, SC; Bethel United Methodist Church, Simpsonville, SC; Cambridge United Methodist Church, Ninety Six, SC; Pamplico/Prospect United Methodist Church, Pamplico, SC; Latta/Mt. Andrew Methodist Church, Latta, SC; Lake View/Union United Methodist Church, Lake View, SC; Nichols United Methodist Church, Nichols, SC; and Marlboro Circuit, Wallace SC.
As a man who served adults and children alike, he was active in organizing a Dad’s Club and PTA groups, serving as an officer in many capacities. His greatest loves were his family, the Methodist Church, and the education of children and young adults.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Nettye Ann Adams Williams; three sons, Bill (Linda) Williams of Honea Path, SC, Bob (Ginger) Williams of Norfolk, VA, and John Williams of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Ann (Myles) Hafner of Beulah, ND; and grand children, Tyler (Carl) Tews of Daytona Beach, Fl, Michael Williams of Norfolk, VA, Buff (Maggie) Williams of Greenville, SC, Haley (Evan) Snow of Greenville, SC, Amy, Amanda, and Jonathan Williams of Charleston, SC, and Lindy and Jacob Hafner of Beulah, ND; great grandchildren, Robby and Charlotte Tews of Daytona Beach, FL; and two brothers, Ira (Marilyn) Williams of Albuquerque, NM, Joe (Wendy) Williams of Jackson, MS.
