The Dillon County Council learned at their last meeting that they had received a donation from Marlboro Electric Coop and Central Electric for $242,248 to go towards the costs on the Oak Grove Industrial Park.
The motion to accept the donation came from County Councilman Aron Gandy seconded by Councilman Joe Johnson. The council approved. The Herald is told that the Oak Grove Industrial Park is the property located at the intersection of Highway 38 and Highway 917.
At the time of the announcement of the purchase in February 2010, Interim County Economic Developer Dave Bailey said they were able to acquire the 33 acres from Jeffrey Lee with the capital sales tax funds and with matching funds from NESA (North Eastern Strategic Alliance). Bailey told The Herald at that time that four sites were evaluated in the Latta area before this one was chosen. The site selection process was conducted by Wilbur Smith, who determined that this site was best. Bailey told The Herald that the site would probably be suited best for smaller companies with 50 to 100 employees.
