It’s been a big week for the Latta Vikings as they managed to defeat two higher ranked Region 8-A schools to improve their record to 5-14 and 4-7.

On Monday, the Vikings hosted Creek Bridge and pulled out a three point win, 76-73, over the Warriors.

Scoring was extremely close through all four quarters, with the Vikings narrowly outscoring the Warriors 19-17 in the first and 22-19 in the second to lead 41-36 at the half. Creek Bridge managed to outscore Latta 16-13 in the third to put them within two points of Latta, 54-52. The Vikings took the fourth quarter by one point, 22-21, to give them the three-point win.

She’Quan Page led Latta to victory with a game-high 37 points. Also scoring were Rajit McFadden, 9; Darren LeGette, 8; HyKeem McClellan, 7; Donell Stanley, 6; Jonathan Vereen, 5; and Travise Kenney, 4.

Creek Bridge was led by Vic Williams with a team-high 25 points. Rashawn Rogers added 16 points with Rakeem Williams posting 15 and Charles Green scoring 11. Jerrod Mason made four points and Chris Crawford added two.

On Tuesday, Latta traveled to Johnsonville to take on the Flashes and came away with another close win, 80-78.

HyKeem McClellan led the charge for the Vikings this time, scoring 20 points for Latta, while Darren LeGette scored a career-high 18 points in the victory. She’Quan Page and Rajit McFadden each contributed 15 points to the win, and Donell Stanley earned 10 points. Darius Jones added two points to the win.

Johnsonville was led by E.J. Davis with a game-high 24 points, and Erion Black with 17. Cordea Wilson earned 13 points and Davonte Brown added 14 for the Flashes. Antron Davis scored six points, and Antonio Mention and Claude Graham each added two.

The two wins improve Latta’s overall record to 5-14 and pumps their regional record to 4-7. Creek Bridge, currently number two in Region 8-A, falls to 16-6 and 7-4, while Johnsonville’s loss wrapped up their regular season, leaving their record at 13-9 and 6-6.

The Vikings wrap up their regular season tonight when they travel to Lake View to take on the Wild Gators at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to come out and support our local teams!
