The Latta Vikings took down the Carvers Bay Bears 74-52 on Tuesday.

The Bears started strong, outscoring Latta 15-7 in the first quarter, but the Vikings quickly turned things around. Latta outscored Carvers Bay 20-12 in the second before nearly tripling the Bears score in the third, 23-8. The Bears managed to put 17 points on the board in the fourth, but Latta added another 24 to secure the victory by 22 points.

Donell Stanley scored a game-high 17 points for the Vikings and She’Quan Page added 14, with Darren LeGette earning 13 and HyKeem McClellan contributing another 11. Rajit McFadden added eight, Jonathan Vereen added six, and Brandon Wilson and Travise Kenney each made two points. Devonte Moultrie also contributed a point to the win.

The Bears were led by a team-high 15 points from Da’Shaun Aiken, with Tyrone Brown adding eight, Tyquiel Goss adding seven, and Alton Nesbitt scoring six. Rayshod Pittman, Lesohn Morris and Teondre Brommell each earned three points, and Thomas Smalls scored four. Also scoring were Stephan Hannah with two points and Nigel Gamble with one.

The win improves Latta’s overall record to 3-11 and 2-6 in Region 8-A. Carvers Bay falls to 13-2 overall and 7-2 in the region, but they remain on top of the Region 8-A rankings.

Latta is next scheduled to host Green Sea-Floyds on Friday at 6:00 p.m. GSF is 15-4 overall and 5-3 in the region. On Monday, February 7, the Vikings will host Creek Bridge in a make-up game from earlier in the season. Creek Bridge is 15-5 and 6-3, making them number two in Region 8-A.

GIRLS

After suffering a loss to Hemingway last week, the Lady Vikings were back to form this week to take down Carvers Bay 74-52.

Game stats were not available at press time, but the win elevates the Vikings’ record to 7-6 overall and 7-1 in Region 8-A. The Lady Vikings are currently ranked second in the region behind Johnsonville’s 9-1 record.

The Lady Vikings next play host to Green Sea-Floyds on Friday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Trojans are 1-15 this season with a 1-7 record. Latta earned a 43-17 win over the Trojans earlier this season.

On Monday, February 7, the Lady Vikings will host Creek Bridge in a make-up game from earlier in the season. The Lady Warriors are 3-13 this season and fell to Latta 55-30 on January 21.

Then on Tuesday, the Lady Vikings will go head to head with the Lady Flashes in Johnsonville’s final game of the regular season.
