Tuesday night saw a close game between the Latta Vikings and Hemingway Tigers, with Jacoby Nesmith’s free throws in the last two seconds of the game pushing Hemingway to victory, 61-59.
The two teams tied in the first quarter at 11 points each before Latta pulled ahead in the second, outscoring Hemingway 18-6. The Tigers roared back in the third, 19-13, but Latta kept the lead at 42-36. The final quarter saw the Tigers push ahead, outscoring Latta 25-17 to give them a two-point win in the final moments of the game.
The Vikings were led by She’Quan Page who earned a game-high 20 points. HyKeem McClellan earned 14, and Rajit McFadden added eight. Donell Stanley made five points, and Travise Kenney and Darren LeGette each added four, with Ty’Sean Burgess and Jonathan Vereen each adding two.
For the Tigers, the lead scorer was Daniel Williams with 18 points, with Azrial Boyd adding 10. Jacoby Nesmith and Dominique Scott each added nine points to the win. Jabril Soloman and Deandre Williams made four points each, Dominique Pwatt made three, and Justin Pressley and Courtney Dollard each added two.
Latta’s record sinks to 1-11 overall and 1-6 in Region 8-A.
Latta was next scheduled to face Dillon on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before taking a break Friday. The Vikings return to action on Tuesday, February 1, against Carvers Bay. The Bears will face Lake View on Friday, and are currently 12-6 overall and 6-1 in the Region.
