They may be on top of the region right now, but even the best teams stumble sometimes, and Latta’s Lady Vikings tripped over Hemingway Tuesday with a 52-38 loss.

Hemingway led the first half, taking the first quarter 14-3 and outscoring Latta 8-3 in the second to lead 16-6. A 21-point surge by Latta in the third wasn’t enough to catch up to Hemingway, who added eight points to put the score at 30-27 going into the fourth. All hopes of catching up were dashed in the final round as Hemingway added 22 points to Latta’s 11, sealing their victory 52-38.

Even though they lost, Latta’s Quasheika Page posted a game-high 18 points for the Vikings. Tiana Deberry also scored in double digits, adding 12 points for Latta. Kierra Johnson contributed four points, and Charise Braddy and Amber Berry each added two.

For the Tigers, Angelina Davis led with 14 points, with Deja Woodberry adding 11. Also scoring where Keondra Snow, 9; Kaniya Burgess, 7; Jashannah Wilson, 5; Iresha Cooper, 4; and Kelsey Washington, 2.

The loss puts Latta at 6-6 overall and 6-1 in Region 8-A. With Johnsonville’s win over Lake View, the two teams each have a 6-1 region record, with Johnsonville sporting an overall record of 12-3.

The Flashes have four more region games before they face Latta on Tuesday, February 8. Latta beat Johnsonville by only two points in their last encounter on Tuesday, January 18.

Latta was next scheduled to host Dillon in a non-region game on Wednesday before taking a break on Friday. The Lady Vikings return to action on Tuesday, February 1, when they’ll host the Carvers Bay Bears at 6:00 p.m. The Bears are currently 0-14 this season.
