Tournament action was tough on the Wildcats this holiday season, but the boys managed to pull out a win in their final round of the Carolina Classic.

The boys lost to Lugoff-Elgin in the Pepsi Carolina Classic by eight points, with the Demons finishing 59-51. Jo Jo Pellegrino scored 22 points for Lugoff, with Darius Custard adding 19. Jakell Whittington led Dillon with 17 points as Dillon’s record fell to 2-7 this season.

The Wildcats then went up against the Florence Christian Eagles on Wednesday and came away victorious, 70-53.

The two teams were tied at the half, 33-33, but Dillon managed to outscore Florence Christian 23-11 in the third to secure the Wildcats’ only win of the tournament in their final game.

Breon Page scored a game-high 23 points for Dillon, with Quincy Bethea adding 11 points to the victory. For the Eagles, Romel Hatcher and Micah Gold scored 11 points each, who finished 0-3 in the tournament.

The championship game in the Classic was between the Wilson Tigers and the South Florence Bruins, with the Tigers narrowly earning their first Classic win 59-57.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cats were unsuccessful in their loser’s bracket matchup with North Myrtle Beach in the Pee Dee Invitational on Tuesday.

The Chiefs snagged the win with six points for a final score of 46-40.

Chelsea Frazier once again led Dillon with a game-high 20 points. Mircale Harley added eight points; Mar’Riana Saunders, 6; Briana Lee, 4; and Tiffany Darrison, 2.

Taylor Allman led the Chiefs with 14 points, and India Farmer added 12. Also scoring were Cox, 4; Livingston, 9; Bellamy, 2; Chestnut, 3; and McCloskey, 2. North Myrtle Beach went on to beat Lake City 47-45 in the fifth-place matchup.

On Wednesday, the Lady Cats fell 26-55 to the St. James Sharks in the seventh-place game of the Invitational.

Chelsea Frazier led the Wildcats with 17 points, with Briana Lee adding five and Mar’Riana Saunders and Mircale Harley each adding two.

Stephanie Roberts led the Sharks with 17 points, with Charisma Rodriguez adding 10. Also scoring for the Sharks were Brianna Dickerson, 9; Tyeshia Allston, 6; Amber Morgan, 6; Elvaronna Hannah, 4; Elaine Tevatte, 3; and Monica Smalls, 2.

In the championship match between the Timmonsville Whirlwinds and the South Florence Bruins, the Whirlwinds were victorious with a 58-48 win. The Whirlwinds are currently undefeated this season.

Dillon boys and girls teams were scheduled to return to regular season action tonight at 6:00 p.m. when they host Fairmont.
