The Dillon County Council passed the second reading of an ordinance at their regular meeting on Wednesday to postpone reassessment for one year.
The vote to postpone reassessment came after a public hearing in which no one appeared to speak. This is allowable under the S.C. Code of Laws. The ordinance states that “reassessment of all property in Dillon County, South Carolina subject to ad valorem taxes is required by Section 12-43-217(a) of the S.C. Code of Laws to be completed no later than December 31, 2010 and implemented no later than property tax year 2011.”
It further states later in the ordinance that “the Dillon County Council finds that implementation of such reassessment as currently scheduled will constitute an inordinate burden upon the taxpayers of the county and upon the county officials charged with completing such reassessment.”
